  • Community Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.

  • May be students from a high school, but because they are over 18 they are Community Volunteers and not School - Age Volunteers.

  • May be extended-family relatives of children in the program.

FOSTER GRANDPARENT VOLUNTEER

These are older adults who work with the Oregon West Council of Governments (OCWCOG) with limited income that receive an hourly stipend to help improve school readiness by nurturing and supporting children with special and exceptional needs, or who are at an academic, social or financial disadvantage.

SCHOOL-AGE VOLUNTEERS

These are students under the age of 18 that are a part of a school or organized community program giving their time and skills to benefit the Head Start program while also receiving the benefits of learning experiences.

  • If over 18, considered a Community Volunteer even if still in high school.

  • Site supervisors and the Parent, Family & Community Engagement Specialist must approve school-age volunteers prior to placement.

COMMUNITY GUESTS AND VISITORS

These are occasional guests who want to volunteer but cannot commit to a schedule. This can be a storyteller, student observer, etc.

Guests cannot visit more than 4 hours per year, with supervisor approval. If over 4 hours they are Community Volunteers.

  • They must always be under the direct supervision of a Kidco Head Start staff person.
