EMPLOYMENT

ON-CALL SUBSTITUTE

WAGE:            $10.25 per hour (6% increase for bilingual Spanish/English)/classified non-exempt

HOURS:           Hours per week, as needed/September through early June annually

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HS Diploma or GED and basic education skills

  • Experience working with groups of young children 3-5 years old (classroom substitute) or groups of young children 0-5 years old (child care substitute)

  • Previous cooking experience, preferably for large groups (kitchen substitute)

  • Sensitivity to individual and group needs of adults and children in target area

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, staff and public, while setting and maintaining professional boundaries

  • Ability to use positive approach in directing child behavior (classroom and child care substitutes)

  • Must be enrolled in the Child Care Division’s Central Background Registry

  • Current Food Handlers card within 30 days of hire

  • Must obtain an Employee Health Appraisal (which includes TB screening)

  • Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Classroom Substitute: Cooperatively assist in set up and carry out of educational activities, following lesson plans as directed by the teacher, including classroom and center clean up, bus monitoring duties, and meals.

  • Child Care Provider: Provide safe, reliable, responsible, developmentally appropriate activities for children 0-5 year old, maintaining cleanliness.  Clean up after children are gone.  Prepare, serve, and clean up after snack.

  • Kitchen Substitute: Using menus provided, prepare, serve, and clean up after meals for Head Start children, families, and staff, following food safety guidelines.

  • Additional Job Responsibilities: Be a contributory participant in program meetings, as requested, adhering to company code of conduct and confidentiality policies and demonstrate commitment to company mission, values, and policies in performance of daily duties.
