FAMILY ADVOCATE

Kids and Company of Linn County (Kidco Head Start/Early Head Start) provides a comprehensive preschool program in Linn and Benton counties for children from low-income families and children with special needs. Kidco Head Start is now accepting applications for the following position in Linn and Benton counties:

WAGE:         $14.55 per hour w/ 6% increase for demonstrated Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency.

HOURS:        35 to 40 hours per week depending on placement/classified non-exempt

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.  Associates degree; or High School Diploma/GED and two years’ experience in the social services field; or satisfactory combination of education and experience. Must complete social service credential within 18 months of hire. Preferred qualification: completed credential or certificate in social work, human services, family services, counseling or related field.

  • Experience working with adults in a supportive or teaching capacity

  • Experience establishing/maintaining effective working relationships with children, parents, staff, agencies and the public.

  • Demonstrated organizational, record-keeping, and computer skills

  • Must be enrolled in the Child Care Division’s Central Background Registry and obtain an Employee Health Appraisal (which includes TB screening)

  • Spanish/English fluency strongly preferred.

  • Valid Oregon driver’s license and available transportation; must meet agency insurability criteria for driving program vehicles.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Family Partnership Building: Enroll families into the program and share information about transitioning to Head Start; assist families in the development of Family Partnership goals and other necessary follow up; assess family goals and provide recommendation and referral for relevant community resources; provide crisis intervention as needed. Conduct regularly scheduled home visits.

Recordkeeping and Reporting: document and track follow up needs, Family Partnership Goals; document all significant parent contacts and home visits; document support consultation to teachers regarding particular concerns with families at scheduled staffing; report, document and monitor child abuse; ensure up to date documentation in agency database and family file; complete all local, regional and federal reporting requirements in a timely and accurate manner.
