BEHAVIOR SPEICALIST [CONTRACTED]

Kids and Company of Linn County (Kidco Head Start/Early Head Start) provides a comprehensive preschool program in Linn and Benton counties for children from low-income families and children with special needs. Kidco Head Start is now accepting applications for the following position in Linn and Benton counties:

WAGE:         Contracted rate $40.00 per hour

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Current License or Certification as a Mental Health Provider in the State Of Oregon 

  • Knowledge of, and experience in serving young children and their families is Preferred 

  • Experience working with or in a Head Start Program is Strongly Preferred 

  • Sensitivity to individual and group needs of adults and children in target areas. 

  • Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries with families. 

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with staff, families and community members. 

  • Organizational and recordkeeping skills. 

  • Ability to compose memos, correspondence, reports and documentation with computer supported applications. 

  • Ability to meet all criteria for driving program vehicles. 

  • Professional level written and verbal skills. 

Other Requirements: 

  • Current First Aid/CPR  

  • Current and ongoing registration with Child Care Division Central Background Registry. 

  • Meet all criteria for Independent Contractor status. 

 

Essential Responsibilities

Services to Children and Families: 

  • Assist the program in developing program practices that are responsive to the identified behavioral/mental health concerns of children in lieu of suspension and/or expulsion. 

  • Provide on-site classroom observations of children, child-staff interactions and classroom functioning. 

  • Facilitate staffing with center personnel after observations. 

  • Provide solution focused brief therapy as needed. 

  • Make appropriate referrals when counseling is recommended. 

  • Provide consultation for parents and staff regarding challenging behaviors. 

  • Assist teachers to improve classroom management and teaching practices relevant to mental health/social emotional development. 

  • Assist identified families in developing support networks; particularly informal, natural support systems that will last after the family leaves Head Start. 

  • Provide input to the program’s Intra-Agency Concern Team regarding children in assigned caseloads with mental health, social-emotional, and behavioral concerns. 

  • Ensure mental health and social-emotional concerns are documented and follow-up occurs. 

  • Assist the Education/Disabilities Coordinator or his/her delegate in developing Individualized Behavior Plans for assigned children. 

 

Recordkeeping and Reporting: 

  • Input documentation of observations, counseling sessions and consultations in the program database within 48 hours of service provision. 

  • Submit Personnel Action Reports in conjunction with program payroll time frames. 

Necessary Physical/Mental Abilities: 

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task on an ongoing basis. 

  • Exercise sound judgment and decision-making ability in crisis situations. 

  • Ability to work as a team, collaborating with parents and community resources. 

  • Frequent driving to program sites and appointments off site. 

  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. 

  • Ability to make frequent significant decisions in supporting parents/families. 

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision. 

  • Work effectively with families of diverse cultures, races, values and lifestyles. 

  • Completion of Health Appraisal including tb screening.
