ASSISTANT TEACHER

Kids and Company of Linn County (Kidco Head Start/Early Head Start) provides a comprehensive preschool program in Linn and Benton counties for children from low-income families and children with special needs. Kidco Head Start is now accepting applications for the following position in Linn and Benton counties:

WAGE:         $12.92 per hour (additional 6% increase for bilingual Spanish/English)/classified non-exempt

HOURS:        37.5 - 40 hours per week/August through early June annually

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current CDA (Child Development Associate) or Associates Degree (preferred), or current enrollment in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree.  Official transcripts will be required.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience working effectively with groups of 3-5 year old children in a structured preschool setting.

  • Experience establishing effective working relationships with parents, staff and public.

  • Demonstrated strong organizational, record-keeping, and computer skills

  • Must be enrolled in the Child Care Division’s Central Background Registry

  • Current First Aid/CPR and Food Handlers cards within 30 days of hire

  • Must obtain an Employee Health Appraisal (which includes TB screening)

  • Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred

  • Valid Oregon driver’s license and available transportation; must meet agency insurability criteria for driving program vehicles.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Classroom: Assist Teacher to provide safe, consistent, positive classroom environment; utilize developmentally appropriate practices to facilitate group and individual activities.

Recordkeeping and Curriculum Development: Assist in the development of balanced lesson plans, adapting curriculum to meet individual goals for children; help maintain up to date child files, to include observations, screenings, assessments and individual plans.

Home/School Partnership: Conduct regular home visits and parent-teacher conferences to promote understanding, support and encouragement.
